The Found Creatures 2009

Take nothing but pictures.
Leave nothing but footprints.
Kill nothing but time.”
~Motto of the Baltimore Grotto, a caving society

Stop.
Be still.
Look around.
Let your imagination out to play. Let your perception be loose. There are new worlds to be created. What are the possibilities?

Armed with an iPhone and her imagination, artist Fiona Morgan heads into a park, a vacant block or onto her front porch and creates imagination animals – found creatures – from natural objects in the immediate vicinity. No plants were damaged. No habitat destroyed. In the spirit of recycling and environmental art the intent is to cause no harm to nature. These pieces were created with zero impact to the environment and left to be scattered and return to the earth in due course.

Created as part of SoFoBoMo – The Solo Photo Book Month.

When we slow down to notice our environment we start to see in ways we haven’t before. When we let our creativity out, we start to think in ways we haven’t before.
Our world needs us to slow down and notice it and for us to perceive our reality in new ways. In this time of environmental catastrophe, changing our perception of the world and our place in it is critical. We need to rewire our views.

The future will be green, or not at all. This truth lies at the heart of humankind’s most pressing challenge: to learn to live in harmony with the Earth on a genuinely sustainable basis.”
Sir Jonathon Porritt

We can be playful while becoming attuned to our local environment. We can be filled with wonder when we find new ways of looking at our world.

Enjoy the Found Creatures. Let them remind you that our world is teeming with intelligences that are not our own. If we look, we might see them.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.” – Chief Seattle, 1855

I live and work on the beautiful lands of the Gumbaynggirr people. These lands were stolen. Sovereignty was never ceded.
I do my best to offer love and respect to all their Elders; past, present, and future.
I extend this respect and reverence to all Indigenous Elders across all nations throughout the world.
Let’s look after them and the old stories they hold from the land. We all need them more than ever.
